The disappointment of things →

viafrank:

The value of things decreases with time due to simple depreciation. Conversely, to me, it seems the value of experiences seems to increase as time moves along, because they are transient. If they are good, I remember them fondly.

Stuff cant do that.

How are you going to pretend to compare memories (unreal?) with physical goods (tangible)? Even it the experience is bad, you will likely remember the good times. With an object, it's easy to forget some of the great times you had with it because those times are small moments every single day. Things become common-place and don't stand out like one-time events. That's no reason to think that they are any less valuable.

We might as well throw relationships into the mix. Go on a trip to Hawaii, or visit a friend in Pittsburgh? No doubt you'd have more fun with a friend. Does that mean Hawaii sucks or is a waste of money?

You can't compare apples to Bentlys to Netflix-for-the-Ipad. They aren't remotely on the same level. Don't do the same with Things vs. Events.
