2016 Recap

2016 was a quieter year for my family and I, and is my 9th year of review (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). This year had very few changes for me, though there is much to expect in 2017.

  • Wedding Season

I was in two weddings, and the best man in one. My friend Mikhail married his wife Michelle in Dallas, TX just off of White Rock Lake at a sunset ceremony in May. It was an honor to be his best man, and fun to give a speech. Then a month later, my brother-in-law Michael married his husband Mark in northern Alabama. Both weddings were different, and it was great to see friends and family happy and in love.

  • Meg went back to work

Meg landed a great job putting her master’s degree to work as the librarian at a nearby elementary school. She started in the spring and has continued on through the year. With her working, we’ve been lucky to have Ander being watched by his grandma Bebe, who retired this summer.

  • No big change

We didn’t move this year. I didn’t get a new job. I sold my Miata and bought a GTI, so we still have a fun to drive car. We didn’t have any more kids, but we are expecting one next year.

I guessed last year I'd run 2 5k’s, and I didn’t run any. I’ve continued playing hockey, and have played some basketball on Saturday mornings, but that’s about it. It’s not as much activity as I predicted and I hope for more in 2017. I also had a goal to keep Ander healthy. He got his first stitches (likely not his last), but that hasn’t slowed him down.

I also guessed the republicans would win the presidency, so I got that right, though I worry Trump will tear some things apart besides the Republican party. I also hope the election impacted NFL viewership in the fall, so it will go back up in 2017.
