2012 Recap

2012 was a blockbuster year. I did a lot last year, but this year was much bigger. In 2011 I had set goals to be healthier and make more than I spent. I also guessed that I'd take a vacation, have more success at work, and continue growing my relationship with Meg. I'd say I did all of that. Here's the full list.

  • Meg and I are engaged

This was the biggest thing to change in 2012, and it was the best decision I made all year. We had talked about long term plans and even looked at some rings earlier in the year. On October 6th, I bought a ring and shortly after that asked Meg to marry me. She said yes.

  • I took several vacations

I went skiing in January. I went to California in February and April. Meg and I went to Las Vegas in May, Florida in July, and Albuquerque in September. I got to spend time with family, friends, and all of it was great.

  • More advancement at Schipul

I've taken more steps forward at my job. We grew our programming team to bring on some new talent, and we made strides in taking Tendenci open source. I'm incredibly proud of the work we did this year.

  • Eating healthier

I've made the switch in September to a more vegan diet. I still eat some meat and dairy, but it is less often before. This has helped me to feel better throughout the day and be in more control of my weight. I'm not trying to lose weight, but am being cautious to not carelessly gain it.

  • I made more than I spent

This was an accomplishment in 2011 and continues to be a goal. I paid off my car and aside from a zero-interest loan am debt-free.

It truly was a great year. I spent lots of time outside of work continuing to learn programming and Django which has helped me in the office. I am very blessed and have much to be thankful for. My year was packed full of activity, and if I wasn't doing something at work or with Meg, I was probably planning something or learning something. I am excited to have used my time well, and am realizing how valuable of an asset my time really is.

While I thought 2012 would be fun, I did not anticipate it would be this great. It has been a stellar year.
