10,000 Hours for Zuckerberg and Lil Wayne

I had a conversation the other day with Glenbot that then continued with Happy Katie about what 10,000 hours can do for a person. I’ve talked about 10,000 hours before, but this was more about what happens after you hit your 10k.

Unemployed is not so bad

In a world of not having to show up for work in the morning, I find my clocks to be the most useless things in my apartment (suits are second). It is really amazing how your life can be shaped by the time, and how free it is when you let that go.

* Why Millennials struggle for jobs

I was recently exposed to this MSN article by @eschipul on twitter. It talks about why some twenty-somethings are struggling to find jobs. As a twenty-something who is looking, this subject is fresh in my mind. From my standpoint there are two influencing factors aside from the current economy. One factor is based on psychological issues and the other on facts. Facts first.

Where is the fun?

Why are we working so hard? Why is there so much focus on productivity? In a recent piece that I found through lifehacker, Mike Elgan suggests that a person who focuses for six hours a day has an advantage over a 12-hour workaholic who doesn’t control their attention. This is a perfect example of multitasking backlash. I recall just a year ago seeing job requests that had “multitasking” listed as a required skill. My response to being called a "Millennial"…

Why writing a resume is tough…

A single sheet of paper is eventually what defines us. Well, those of us that interview for jobs and get degrees and don’t have mad networking skills. Years of classes, work, other stuff, and some basic info make up this all-important document that will hopefully get you in the door. It should be fairly simple to accurately portray successes and skills, especially since we lived them and have them. But it isn’t simple. It is hard.

Life is pretty good…

It’s been a while. Things have been moving super fast the past month. July started with me becoming a grown-up and working in a real office for a real company. 3 weeks in NJ (which meant 3 weeks of train-riding and getting up at 4:30). Then 2 weeks in Chicago. Which was awesome. And finally I had a week here in the Manhattan office. The office is busy.
