2011 Goals and Guesses

I recapped 2010, and now here are the goals and guesses for the new year, 2011. Goals first.

  • Complete a Happiness Project

Meg turned me on to The Happiness Project a couple of months ago and I have been focused on planning one ever since (Meg is too). My main focus will be on 6 areas: Health, Financial, Social, Spiritual, Work, and Play. I will rotate an area of focus each month. January is health, and my goal is to work out for 30 minutes each day. More goals will come throughout the year, but my 2011 goal is to complete the project (and hopefully be happier).

  • Get back in shape

2010 Recap

Another year, another recap. I covered 2009 previously, and now another year has passed.

Change was once again a big factor. While some people fear change, I gladly embrace it in my life because I know it will happen with our without my influence. Here are some of the big changes in my life in 2010.

Heres the problem

I love that phrase. Whenever someone asks for my help and starts out with “Here’s the problem”, I get excited.I know that they have a new puzzle for me to solve. I begin to focus intently on what they are describing, and all sorts of things start firing off in my head.

The 80-second pizza attempt

Three things were going on in this attempt:

  1. Gus Mueller’s 80-second pizza baking method
  2. Pioneer Woman’s homemade dough
  3. Buffalo Mozzarella via recommendation from Anthony Mangieri

In the science world, it is important to keep some things constant so you know what you are testing. For my big pizza bake-off, I had many variables flying around at once. This was the base cause of the many different variations of pizza I made.

* 2009 Recap

I covered 2008 previously, which was a pretty big year for me. Turns out 2009 did not disappoint.

Change was of course another big theme in my year. I had not really intended it to be, but it was no surprise. Here are the big things that happened to me in 2009:

The Urge to Design Things

I am an engineer. I like to figure out how things work. I take things apart and put them together again (or sometimes not). I also like to make things.

The internet is a great place to make things. It’s also a great place to consume things. I’d say at my current standpoint I do much more consuming than making. I’d like to do a bit more making.

A new look for my face

It’s not so often that you get to change the way your face looks. You can get a new haircut, get some expensive plastic surgery, grow some facial hair, or put on some makeup. Or you can wear glasses.

Premium Moments in life

Premium moments feel very successful. These are the moments that are few and far between in the situations they are relative to. These are when your dreams come true.

In relationships, these moments can be a sweet first kiss at the end of a date. Or a shared smile after you both agree on something big. There are daily hugs and rituals and conversations that are great, but these few moments stick with you.

What do I want next?

Since around the time I was 14, I have had one major goal for my time; get a girl. This later evolved into dating and then into long relationships. This was my one goal, and was a major motivator for most of my actions. I wanted to excel at everything I did to impress girls. This included sports, school, church, and really anything I did. But now, at 23 years old, I have found a girl. I impress her with many things that I do, but without trying to impress her. She likes who I am, and I like who she is. She rarely tries to change me, and I try to change her all the time. You would think that would cause an imbalance, but it doesn’t. Everyone means well, and we both love each other very much. But now, I am wondering, what is next?

More NYC Closure

It all started with a phonecall in December of 2007. The woman on the other end had a identifiable Manhattan accent. She offered me a chance of a lifetime (or at least my lifetime thus far). Come to New York City and be a consultant. So, in June I moved up to the big apple and my life changed.
