HQP Network

I am very excited when it comes to meeting and getting to know high quality people. I have only met a few, but I know there is some way to use the web to meet more. The current gamut of social networks are not exactly serving my needs in this area.

People matter offline

Another conversation with Meg and another idea. This one is pretty simple; people matter in the real world.

In my current job search, I am trying to find out what I am really looking for. The number one thing that matters to me is the people. I have touched on this before, but I think it needs more explanation.

Use it or lose it…

In a recent conversation with Meg, she told me about how she recently bought some pomegranate seeds. They were $6. She said after eating a few that they were much more bitter than expected. She did not like them, but she finished them anyway. Her logic and thinking was that they were expensive and she didn’t want to just throw them out. I would have thrown them out.

Scalability (and things that don't)…

There are many things that I see daily that don’t scale well. The idea behind scaling things is to take something that works well and make it bigger, so that the good output is increased. Buying stock scales. If you can make a dollar on one share, you can easily make a million on a million. Some businesses scale, but many do not. The idea behind scalability is that you maintain the same structure and effect, and it is not increased or decreased (at least by much). Some things multiply when grown; this is called synergy. Loose ties in new media…

Attention is scarce. With the growth of social media, many people are meeting others and growing their digital Rolodex exponentially. Some media experts have thousands of followers on twitter, and many that read their blog daily. They have used social media to create themselves as a brand, and are using technology to open the floodgates of communication. The problem this creates surrounds the concept of loose ties and what that means for new media.

Complaining and Worrying…

I am not much of a complainer. While I am very critical (and somewhat cynical), I do my best to see the positive in things and to not let little problems get me down. The problem I see with complaining revolve around it’s similarities to worrying, which I almost never do. In both cases, you experience a good deal of stress and anguish without much of a reward. I tend to also be very strategic and efficient, so actions that waste time and energy are not high on my list. But, there are many situations where it is difficult not to worry or complain.

Changeblogger and people

Today has been a long day. From meeting with a potential future NYC mayor to meeting some other Accenture employees, I was really looking forward to my evening at ChangeBlogger. And I had a great time. Really, it was better than I expected. I got to meet new people, learn more about the non-profit world, and talk to people I had emailed but never met before. I like meeting people IRL that I have met online.

The Secret Church

Secret Church is a form of religious gathering that combines the best parts of small groups and cherishes exclusivity.

Today it’s Secret Church, which is my fantasy of meeting in small groups for spirituality. It is the opposite of advertising and masquerading in religion. Hopefully I can find/start this.
