Your Audience is who Shows Up

The internet is full of people giving great advice about your audience. Listen to your audience. Write for your audience. Speak to your audience. The problem is that most people don’t understand who is really in their audience.

Practicing what you preach

This is a follow-up to my post about math and Groundswell.

While Josh Bernoff and I may disagree on some minor math issues, one thing I agree with him on is the influence of the Groundswell, and the power that can be had from tracking it.

PETA sinks to new lows…

Why the hell would anyone want to Create Their Own Sea Kitten at peta.org! This is just stupid.

The big problem I see with this is PETA (in their infinite wisdom) is attempting to remove the word “fish” and replace it with “sea-kitten”. WHAT? This is such a ridiculous idea I can’t even believe they spent money on this. Instead of using their funding to try and better the world, they actually made a campaign to rename fish. What is next, cows re-branded as “Giant Land Kittens”? Or perhaps they will re-brand dogs as “Large house kittens”.

* An everlasting flyer…

I came across a post today from Church Marketing Sucks about spending $5,000. In it, they talk about two ideas for marketing handouts. The first is handing out flyers or stickers that point you to a website. The second is to stamp your website on a $1 bill and hand that out to someone in need.

Black Music Month

Apparently it is Black Music Month. This has been going on since 2001 and I haven’t noticed til now. How has that happened? I listen to black music (or at least to black artists, who I assume make black music). I am very proud that this is not lumped together with Black History Month. What other kinds of Black months could pop up soon? Black election month perhaps?

Getting noticed by girls

I was watching winter passing last night, and it gave me an idea. Girls wear make-up, guys don’t. So it could be assumed that girls have a better knowledge of make-up, and can better recognize make-up. So if a guy was to wear enough make-up that a girl could pick up it’s subtle hint, but other guys could not detect it, wouldn’t this make a guy get noticed more by girls without looking like an idiot in front of other guys? If anyone tries this out, let me know.
