A Post Turtle

I read a comment on digg that I found really interesting (I'd link it but I'm lazy, and I'm sure it came from somewhere else). It made a metaphor between Sarah Palin and a Post Turtle.
A Post Tutle is a very simple idea. It is a turtle that is on top of a fencepost. But this turtle did not get on top of the fencepost on its own. Someone put it up there. Who knows why, but now it is up there. And it had no idea why it is there, and no idea how to get down. The metaphor is pretty obvious, but the real question is ultimately who put the turtle up on the fencepost, and why.
