The Fat Little Girlfriend Site

It all started with an email. My Dad sent me to a link to a story about Coach Mike Leach and his ideas on why the Red Raiders lost 52-30 to the Aggies. He mentioned that http://fatlittlegirlfriend.com was not taken so I grabbed it around 9:30 am. I took a clip of the interview and trimmed it down to about 10 seconds, just enough to get the part about the Fat Little Girlfriends and I put it up on YouTube, then I embedded the video and set it to auto-play and loop. I looped it not to get stats, but just so it would play over and over and over.

I think a quote of this magnitude rivals Mike Gundy's "I'm a man, I'm 40" and I would like to celebrate that with Fat Little Girlfriend. My real hope is to track the site and see where the hits come from and learn a bit more about Single Serving Sites.

Upon recommendations from friends, I posted a quick Cafe Press shop to sell shirts and other items for the site. I have no idea how many will sell. I'd just like to make enough to cover the bandwidth.

Tuesday, Oct. 27th

The site launched around 10am central time. Over the first couple of hours, the hits were pretty low. I tweeted it and sent a couple of links out on facebook. There were a few retweets, but nothing major. Most of the hits were coming from a link in the sidebar on YouTube. The rest were from college sports forums like Texags, Oklahoma State, and TigerNet. It averaged around 120 hits an hour, and finished with 1,533 visits for the day.

Wednesday, Oct. 28th

The site was picked up on the Iowa Forums and that drove traffic for most of the morning. I tweeted it a couple of more times, and the retweets began to pickup. At this point YouTube had recorded about 7,000 views and I was nearing 2,000 total visits. Around Noon the Direct Traffic really picked up and became the driving force for visits.

By 1pm the site was averaging 350 visits per hour. Around 5:30 I was contacted by Julie Musgrave of KAMC 28 in Lubbock to get a few comments about the site for an article. At this point the site had over 4,000 visits in about 30 hours and was still growing.

Around 5pm, the Facebook referrals began to pickup. They are currently coming mostly from the News Feed, however they have been linked and clicked on almost 40 individual profile pages, like mine. The day finished with just over 4,200 visits.

Thursday, Oct. 29th

The day started off strong. By Noon there were 1,800 visits. I got a plug on Rock 101 as having the "Douchiest" website of the week. Thanks Sean. The overall traffic looks like it is finally starting to change. For the T-Shirts, I changed "Wreck 'Em Tech" to "Lubbock, Texas" to avoid any kind of Trademark issues with that phrase, but I hadn't sold any shirts yet so I don't think it will matter much. I kind of like the shirt better this way, I just wish I could make a bright red one.

The day finished very strong. About 4,300 visits, to just top Wednesday. Overall, traffic is just over 10,000 visits.

Friday, Oct. 30th

The day is really starting off strong. 700 visits before 7am. I think today might even be bigger. Facebook has moved up as one of the top referring sites, second only to YouTube.

The count is now 1,600 through 9am. Today looks like it will be big.

I've only received one nasty message on my Contact form and for that I grateful. I hope everyone can get a good laugh out of this.
