The King and the Pawn →

Gapingvoid the king

This great drawing from Gapingvoid reminds me of this scene from The Wire:

The King stay the King.

Hugh MacLeod (Gapingvoid) quits Facebook →

He quits Twitter, too. Good for him. I totally agree with:

Besides, even if they’re very good at hiding the fact, over on Twitter and Facebook, it’s not your content, it’s their content.

The content on your blog, however, belongs to you, and you alone. People come to your online home, to hear what you have to say, not to hear what everybody else has to say. This sense of personal sovereignty is important.

Heello – Twitter alter-ego →

A fascinating look at the initial boom of Heelo that the community turned into a Bizarro-World Twitter. Since then, most of what Andy documents has been taken down at the request of the real people.

Selling products with emotion →

It’s a simple idea, with this at the heart of it:

People don’t buy features, they buy benefits.

Myths about Introverts →

I am an introvert. However, that does not mean I am shy, don’t like talking, don’t like to go in public, am rude and don’t like people, etc. This collection of myths can give extroverts and other introverts some perspective about why people like me act the way we do.

My favorite myth is #4:

Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people. On the contrary, Introverts intensely value the few friends they have. They can count their close friends on one hand. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you a friend, you probably have a loyal ally for life. Once you have earned their respect as being a person of substance, you’re in.

Having no idea what you are doing →

Ben Pieratt, CEO of svpply, talks about his challenges at being a CEO with 0 experience. Most of the challenges aren’t with technology or funding or even the business model. The biggest challenge is in finding good people and working with them. People make businesses run, whether it’s a mom-and-pop shop or it’s a multi-billion dollar corporation.

My favorite line addresses product development:

But my understanding of the product and the market has leapfrogged the vision that I pitched.

Customers always change things in product development. The faster you can understand this, the better.

Stringer’s Folly →

It seems to all come down to Stringer’s inability to close up loose ends. It’s almost like a broad extension of Tuco’s Advice over the series of seasons 2 and 3. He was able to pull the trigger once, but he didn’t clean house and thus never took full power.

His other flaw is one of youth. He thought by taking a different route (business vs. violence) he could turn dirty work into legitimate success. His greatest weakness was this confidence that he could in fact change “the game”. His problem was he was playing by his own rules while no one else was.
