Merlin Mann:

I guess I just feel like why bother standing anywhere if programmatically notifying the API of a web server about it doesn’t inevitably lead to one of the computers eventually rewarding my careful standing-reportage by conferring the prestige, gratitude, and—yes—basic fucking human decency and respect that can only be accorded by triggering a ruby script that alters a small graphic on my phone.

Technology is a wonderful thing.

Modern Warfare 2 – Kill No One →

Interesting to try. I think he will kill someone on accident.

In the long run, If everyone played this way, could we all level up? I don’t think so. The point being, for the group to benefit, someone has to do the dirty work.

Christopher Nolan’s “Implementation” : The New Yorker →

The language they use is ridiculous, but all of it is real. Limbo is:

Musician argues copyright with teenage girl →

I don’t think either one of them is 100% correct. I see her point of view that she can’t buy music online (no credit card) and that her singing his stuff somewhat helps him.

From his perspective, he works hard to make something that has value, and people should have to pay for that value.

The real problem I see is that even online distribution with easy credit card payments does not mean universal access. The other problem (not just related to this) is people wanting stuff they can’t afford. Anyone can pay $0.99 for a song, but not everyone has the dough for a 2,000 song library.

It’s apparently not enough to add colons to every business and history book title. Now we are using colons everywhere. Hear that again: we are using colons everywhere.
