2010 Recap

Another year, another recap. I covered 2009 previously, and now another year has passed.

Change was once again a big factor. While some people fear change, I gladly embrace it in my life because I know it will happen with our without my influence. Here are some of the big changes in my life in 2010.

Pimp Business Plan →

The sheer focus on the success of the business in the goals is impressive. My favorites.

  • Everything I do or buy, make sure it’s a campaign tool
  • Play to win, and play to the end
  • Minimize my budget
  • More serious about my money and future
  • Never get too comfortable or lazy in my position

Good advice for any businessman.

The man who writes your students’ papers tells his story →

Superb. What an interesting story.

I love that the author realizes his dream, to become a published author and profit from his work. He just doesn’t get any credit. This crosses all sorts of ethical boundaries, but I think the problem is not with the writer or his service. Remember, he is just one of many similar writers.

I’ve worked on homework as a group, which is more like collaborating and less like cheating. I’ve never cheated on a test or had someone else write my paper. I can’t imagine doing so.

Increased pressure to get a degree is a cause I see for problems like this. It’s a tough problem to solve, and one that will bite us in the ass in 40 years.

In Praise of Quitting your Job →

I prefer the alternate title, The New Work Ethic.

Passion can manifest both in what we do, and in what we choose not to do. Competition promotes innovation. “7 billion people” promotes creativity. If you care about what you do, you can do it Stronger, Faster, Better.

Merlin on business. Yes, this does relate to your business. And yes, you likely have had many toned-down versions of this conversation without really realizing what was going on.
